Toronto – October 1, 2020 – NexJ Health Inc. (NexJ Health), a provider of advanced virtual care solutions for chronic disease prevention and management, is proud to announce the launch of an online mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy (MbCBT) program for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Personal health coaching through the NexJ Connected Wellness online platform will be provided to referred CAF personnel undergoing treatment for depression and/or PTSD at CAF mental health clinics. Participants will be matched with regulated healthcare providers with expertise in cognitive behavioural therapy, trauma-based therapy and motivational interviewing. Health coaches will remotely establish a therapeutic alliance and personalized care plan that incorporates online education on physical activity, healthy eating, and stress reduction, as well as the tracking of exercise, diet, and mindfulness meditation. A wearable device will be provided to track steps, sleep, and heart rate through direct integration with NexJ Connected Wellness. The use of NexJ Connected Wellness provides service members with health coaching, educational resources, and improved provider communication without the impediments of travel. NexJ Connected Wellness will also allow CAF members to anonymously engage in peer support with other service members through secure forums. This approach in other studies has been shown to improve adherence to key health-related behaviours. “Military service can be arduous and can affect both physical and mental health of those who serve,” said Col. Rakesh Jetly, Chief CAF Psychiatrist at Canadian Health Services Group. “As we enter a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic with continued isolation, NexJ Connected Wellness is ideally suited for the current reality, helping bring person-centred mental health support for those in the service.” The project will use the same person-centred virtual care behaviour change program as demonstrated successfully at trial at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), providing strong evidence that virtual interventions offer improved reach and outcomes over standard care. “We are thrilled to deliver personalized mental health services and health coaching to those who work tirelessly to defend our country,” said Noah Wayne, Vice President of Clinical Programs at NexJ Health. “NexJ Connected Wellness virtual care will help to improve the mental health and wellbeing of members of the Canadian Armed Forces and provide support for healthy living.” About NexJ Health Inc.
