Innovative care delivery model shows great potential for expansion in Canada and beyond

Toronto — February 29, 2024 — NexJ Health Inc. (“NexJ Health”), provider of polychronic condition management and mental wellbeing solutions, is thrilled to announce the successful continuation of the groundbreaking Call&Check program in partnership with HomeCall, now entering its 6th year of operation in the Isle of Jersey. The program, funded by the Government of Jersey, continues to prove its significance by empowering individuals to live independently and confidently in their homes, fostering community connections and addressing loneliness among the senior population.

The Call&Check original program, operated in collaboration with Jersey Post, utilizes postal workers as a crucial link to connect with older adults who may be vulnerable, frail, or isolated in the community. As part of their regular delivery routes, postal workers not only deliver mail but also check in on participants, engage in friendly conversations, and administer a brief survey to assess their well-being. This innovative approach has garnered international attention for its success in enhancing the lives of seniors and creating a sense of community.

NexJ Health believes that the success of Call&Check in the Isle of Jersey can be replicated in Canada, addressing the unique challenges faced by the senior population and providing a win-win solution for Canada Post. The recent white paper published by the National Institute on Ageing (NIA) highlights the potential of leveraging Canada Post’s extensive network of postal workers to combat loneliness among older adults. This model not only complements Canada Post’s existing staffing structure but also provides an opportunity to enhance the role of postal workers, offering a holistic approach to community well-being.

Canada is experiencing a growing senior population, and addressing the issue of social isolation among older adults has become a national priority. The Call&Check program, with its track record of success, presents an innovative solution to support the aging population, allowing them to age in place while remaining connected to their communities. The program aligns with Canada’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for seniors and creating opportunities for them to remain engaged and active.

“The Call&Check program has proven to be a game-changer in the Isle of Jersey, and we see immense potential for similar positive impact in Canada,” said Daniela Liggio, President at NexJ Health. “Beyond its benefits to Canada Post in providing an additional revenue stream, this program has the power to transform the lives of seniors by tackling the pervasive issue of loneliness. We believe that it’s time to explore the possibilities of rolling out Call&Check in Canada to create a more connected and supportive environment for our aging population.”

NexJ Health invites stakeholders, policymakers, and communities across Canada to engage in discussions about the potential implementation of the Call&Check program. By leveraging the existing infrastructure of Canada Post, this initiative can not only rejuvenate the role of postal workers but also contribute to building stronger, more resilient communities that prioritize the well-being of their senior members.
