Toronto — October 1, 2025 — NexJ Health Inc. (“NexJ Health”), a leader in AI-enabled health coaching, is proud to host their first Zinc NIHR Innovation Fellow in Metabolic Psychiatry. This initiative is supported by Zinc VC and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR, UK).

This academic–industry initiative reflects the growing need to unite evidence-based research with technology to advance novel health solutions. NexJ Health is contributing to a strong body of research that demonstrates the potential of ketogenic dietary interventions to improve both mental and metabolic health outcomes through digital solutions. The partnership aims to further explore this important area by leveraging innovative health technologies and personalized health coaching to enhance adherence to ketogenic diets and other metabolic interventions.

As part of the fellowship, Dr. Megan Kirk Chang, Senior Researcher in Mental Health and Behavioural Medicine affiliated with the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, has been named the inaugural NexJ Health Metabolic Psychiatry Fellow.

Dr. Kirk Chang will work closely alongside NexJ Health’s coaching and product teams on groundbreaking projects at the intersection of mental health, metabolic disorders, and digital therapeutics. Areas of focus include:

  • AI-assisted health coach support to strengthen adherence to ketogenic dietary interventions.
  • Integration of new wearable tracking devices, such as tools for nutritional ketosis and remote ketone monitoring, into NexJ’s Connected Wellness platform to improve participant awareness of metabolic health.
  • Active participation in clinical and industry projects advancing the role of metabolic psychiatry in chronic disease prevention and management and mental health.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Kirk Chang as our first Metabolic Psychiatry Fellow,” said Dr. Noah Wayne, VP Clinical Programs at NexJ Health. “Her expertise in behavioral medicine and mental health research will be invaluable as we advance digital tools and coaching programs that improve patient outcomes with metabolic and mental health conditions.”

This partnership highlights NexJ Health’s commitment to transforming cutting-edge academic research into scalable, evidence-based solutions that address urgent challenges in chronic condition management.

Dr. Kirk Chang added: “I am excited to join NexJ Health for this fellowship. Working at the intersection of AI, behavioral science, and wearable technology presents new opportunities to shape digital innovation for patients with mental and metabolic health challenges to better adhere to ketogenic diet interventions and beyond.”
