Milestone establishes NexJ Connected Wellness as first patient engagement solution connected to a state HIE

Toronto, ON (February 18, 2014) — NexJ Systems Inc. (TSX: NXJ), a provider of cloud-based software delivering enterprise solutions to the financial services, insurance, and healthcare industries, today announced that NexJ, in collaboration with Massachusetts eHealth Institute (MeHI) has successfully demonstrated the integration of NexJ Connected Wellness with the Massachusetts Health Information Highway (Mass HIway).

In August 2013, MeHI awarded NexJ Systems a grant to improve the delivery of health care by providing a direct and secure link to the exchange, with the goal of having every provider in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts connected to the HIway. In January, test inbound and outbound secure communications were exchanged over NexJ Connected Wellness using the NwHIN Direct messaging protocol and verified by Mass HIway confirming the integration milestone of the project was achieved.

Once the project is completed, healthcare providers using the Mass HIway will be able to securely access patient health information, create and deliver patient-friendly care plans that patients can share with their care team, family and friends, and drive sustainable behavior change with personal health coaching. Doing so will allow healthcare providers to drive greater engagement and activation amongst their patient population and their extended care network.

“We continue to demonstrate that engaging and activating patients directly in their care will be of great benefit to both individuals and their providers,” said Eric Gombrich, Senior Vice President and General Manager of NexJ Health Solutions. “Achieving this milestone now positions us to expand on the research we’re doing with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and begin making NexJ Connected Wellness available to individual patients and their physicians throughout the Commonwealth.”

“This is an important step in the joint efforts by healthcare policy and technology pioneers in creating a people-centered model of care,” says John Halamka, CIO, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

The Massachusetts state HIE is built upon the Orion Health HIE infrastructure and furthers the partnership NexJ has established with Orion Health as a leading global provider of HIE and healthcare integration solutions.
